Longtime assistant Regrutto departs from soccer program

Pack coach has been involved with ThunderWolves as a coach or player since 1998.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - July 8, 2011) - Longtime CSU-Pueblo assistant men's soccer coach, Paul Regrutto, will depart from the program to pursue other opportunities, he announced this week.

Regrutto, who had coached the ThunderWolves as an assistant for eight seasons, specialized in coaching the team's goalkeepers.  Since joining the coaching staff in 2002, he only broke his tenure for one season, in 2006, when he accepted the position of coaching at Hawaii-Hilo.  Regrutto was also an assistant for the CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team from 2002 to 2005.

Before becoming a CSU-Pueblo assistant, he played in 38 games with the ThunderWolves from 1998 to 2000, helping lead CSU-Pueblo to its school record 15-5-1 RMAC championship season in 1999 as the team's captain.  He earned All-RMAC honors in 2000, as well.

Regrutto will now be the head coach for the Pueblo Athletic Club team of the Continental Soccer League.  He will also pursue other college and/or professional coaching opportunities.

"I'd like to thank [head men's soccer coach Roy] Stanley for the opportunity," Regrutto said.  "I have had a wonderful time coaching because of him.  He really valued my opinion and allowed me to grow as a coach under his tutelage, and I can't thank him enough for the confidence he showed in me.  He is a good coach, but an even better person.  His kindness and generosity will never be forgotten."

"CSU-Pueblo has been a wonderful place to work and it will always be my home," he said.

"It's hard to put into words what Paul has meant to CSU-P soccer and Pueblo community soccer," Stanley said.  "He has been a great coach, role model, player, friend, and person.  He always represents himself and the University in a first class manner.  I am forever grateful for what Paul has done for the University's soccer program, my family, and the community."

A replacement for Regrutto's assistant coach position will be announced soon.
