PUEBLO, Colo. (September 4, 2016) - Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer improved to 2-0 on the season following a 2-1 win Sunday against Lubbock Christian University at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Both Pack goals came nearly three minutes apart when in just the second minute into the game Lorenz Delaney (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) received a cross pass from Connor Marth (Jr., Tulsa, Okla.) and struck a nice one-touch ball beyond the reach of the Chaparral goalkeeper.
Moments later with the Pack deep in LCU territory, Marth fed another beauty of a ball pass to the feet of Mackenzie Paquette (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) who placed the ball to the back of the net for an early two goal advantage.
The Pack maintained possession for much of the first half and held a 5-2 shot advantage at the half while the Chaparrals had a 2-1 corner kick lead through the first forty-five minutes.
LCU avoided the shutout in the 47th minute scoring on a soft dribbler beyond the reach of Pack goalkeeper Erich Frey (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.).
The back defensive line of Lucas Moreno Rodriguez (Jr., Bogota, Colombia), Aaron Strunk (Sr., Springfield, Mo.) and Trevor Hardacker (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) played big roles in controlling the big players of LCU.
Marth, Paquette and Miles Sanchez (Fr., Bothell, Wash.) each fired two shots to guide the Pack offensively.
Frey made two saves at the net for the Pack and faced four total shots by LCU.
CSU-Pueblo (2-0) hits the road for the first time this season and plays Friday at Northeastern State and concludes the trip Sunday at West Texas A&M.
