CANYON, Tex. (Sept. 3, 2018) - Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer dropped its first road game of the season Monday falling 3-1 at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Tex.
Senior midfielder Harrison Sikes (Moore, Okla.) netted his first goal of the year in the 26' of the contest.
Fresh off a 1-0 win at home against Newman to start the season, the Pack opened the first road match with two shots by senior Santiago Tinta (Quito-Ecuador).
Midway through the first period and after a couple of fouls by CSU-Pueblo, Tinta found the ball at the center of the pitch and served in a pass inside the box that was headed in by Sikes for the header goal score.
In the final minutes of the first half WT scored the equalizer on a misplayed cross inside the box knotting the match 1-1 at intermission.
At halftime the Buffaloes led 14-3 in shots and earned three corner kicks and zero for the Pack.
The final period, the Buffs Julio Vargas netted his second score in the 64' taking the ball unassisted and fired a one-touch strike from 25 yards out to bottom third of goal.
Nearly twenty minutes later Vargas secured the hat trick by dribbling the ball 2-v-1 with the Pack defense and firing a shot into the lower corner of goal to seal the win.
In the game the Pack fired four shots.
Pack goalkeeper Tyler Harvey (Jr., Henderson, Nev.) made seven saves in facing ten shots on goal.
CSU-Pueblo (1-1) returns home and concludes nonconference play against Dallas Baptist (Sept. 6) and Texas Permian-Basin (Sept. 8).
