KEARNEY, Neb. - Short their number five singles player and forced to forfeit two matches, the odds were against the ThunderWolves Friday in the RMAC Quarterfinals, eventually losing 5-0 to Western New Mexico.
Forced to play indoors because rain and sleet pushed the RMAC Tournament from the outdoor courts at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, the two teams played until one team reached five wins. Short a player, the ThunderWolves were already down 2-0 before even stepping on the court.
The ThunderWolves' top doubles combo of Ricardo Oaxaca and Beau Fresquez put up the biggest challenge to Western New Mexico, losing 8-5 to Rafael Catay and Valu Fa.
But all the Mustangs needed beyond that to secure a win was an 8-0 victory at number-two doubles over Andres Morales and Kyle Eades, and at least one singles win, which they got when Morales lost to Francisco Pereira 7-5, 6-4.
From there, the rest of the Pack players didn't even get a chance to get individual glory, as in a flurry, the Pack's season ended.
The ThunderWolves finished their season with a 3-11 mark.
Note: Earlier in the day, the Pack's number-two singles player, Ricardo Oaxaca, was named to the all-RMAC Men's Tennis team as a first-team member.
