Pack doubles success can't carry over to win
#28 Midwestern State 6, CSU-Pueblo 3
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Despite claiming two out of three in doubles competition vs. 28th-ranked Midwestern State (Tex.) Thursday, the Pack men's tennis team fell six matches to three in Phoenix, Ariz.
Led by number-one doubles combo Beau Fresquez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Ricardo Oaxaca (Jr., Puebla, Mexico), the Pack claimed one match a slim 9-8 victory, carried by a 7-3 tiebreaker.
Philipp Penkatzki (Sr., Bottrtop, Germany) and Andres Morales (Jr., Puebla, Mexico) added to the advantage, scoring an 8-4 win in the number-two doubles match.
But the ThunderWolves' fortunes mostly stopped there. Aside from a 6-3, 6-3 win by Oaxaca in the number-three singles match, the Pack was on the short end of a few slim matches that would have tipped the balance of the match in the Pack's favor.
CSU-Pueblo will continue on its five-match swing in Phoenix when it takes on Cal Poly and 18th-ranked UC-San Diego.
