Pack falls in battle of the ranked
PUEBLO,Colo. -(GoThunderWolves.com-April, 13,2012)- Playing in their final home stand before heading out to the RMAC Tournament, the CSU-Pueblo Men's Tennis team suffered two losses at the hands of the Nationally ranked (#35) and RMAC favorite Nebraska-Kearney and Montana State-Billings.
In the first battle of the day, CSU-Pueblo faced #4 Regionally ranked MSU-Billings and fell two-games to seven. The ThundeWolves' two victories came in singles action. Bruno Hurtado (Jr., Mexico City, Mexcio) locked down one of the Packs wins at number-1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2. Win number two came from Saul Shrom (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) at the number-3 singles spot when he won 6-3, 6-2.
Next up for the ThunderWolves was RMAC foe and powerhouse Nebraska-Kearney. Even though the Pack took another loss, 3-games to six, there was plenty of excitement along the way.
Trying to set the tone earlier for the Pack was their number-one doubles team of Alex Lesiuk(Fr., Winnipeg, Canada) and Shrom. Facing the Lopers #1 regionally ranked doubles team of Raymond/Nadella, the Canadian duo worked their magic and pulled off the upset 8-6, for their sixth win of the season.
Also flexing their muscle at number-three doubles were Tom Chavez (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Hurtado. Their win, 8-6, took the Pack into the lead going into the singles.
Staying hot, Shrom posted the Pack's only other win, again at number-three singles, 6-1, 6-4.
The ThunderWolves start RMAC Tournament action Friday, April 20, 2012 in Denver, Colo.
