Pack one hit away from a sweep of UCCS

The ThunderWolves were just one hit away from claiming a sweep from the UCCS Mountain Lions Saturday, but came away with a split at an RMAC pod held at Alamosa.

Rightfielder Joelle Rofrano was at the plate for the ThunderWolves in the bottom of the 7th inning, trailing 3-2 with runners on second and third, but was struck out by the Mountain Lions' Libby White, ending the Pack's rally.

In game one, the Pack took a 9-5 win, fueled by a huge day by shortstop Janine Tyler.  Tyler went 3-for-5 and slammed two homers, the first of which coming in the first at bat of the game.  Tyler's first inning homer was followed by a homer by Kari Romero, the first of her career for the Pack's slap-hitter, putting the Pack up 2-0 and setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Tyler's second homer, a three-run shot, was the nail in the Mountain Lions' coffin, coming in the sixth inning and extending the Pack's then-6-5 lead to 9-5.

The ThunderWolves' split comes on the heels of a tough luck streak by the Pack, having lost seven of eight coming into Saturday's games.

The ThunderWolves will continue play in Alamosa Sunday, taking on Colorado Mines at 11 a.m. for a doubleheader.
