Pack's Tyler shatters school stolen base record
|
Junior shortstop Janine Tyler didn't do anything out of the ordinary during the Pack's doubleheader sweep of Adams State Wednesday - she simply did all she could to help her team score runs. In doing so, she stole two bases Wednesday, giving her 23 for the season and breaking a school record.
Tyler's latest two thefts breaks the record of 21, held by Victoria Morache (2002) and Amber Aragon (2001).
Tyler, in fact, is a perfect 43-for-43 in stolen bases attempts in her career. She is on track to take over the NCAA Division II national record for all-time best stolen-base efficiency, needing to reach a minimum 50 attempts before she is recognized by the NCAA statistical aficionados. The current all-time mark is held by Norfolk State's Michelle Stone, who swiped 88 bases in 89 attempts for a .989 percentage. Stone's mark was set in 1989, standing for nearly 20 years.
Tyler is now currently second on the all-time CSU-Pueblo career stolen base list, only trailing Aragon, who had 63 steals in 75 attempts from 2001-2004.
