COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - CSU-Pueblo placed two members on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Century Softball Team - pitcher Kerri Chase and Niki (Toussaint) Whitaker, CSU-Pueblo's current associate athletic director.
Chase and Toussaint were both members of the 2001 University of Southern Colorado softball team, which won 51 games and hosted the West Regional softball tournament.
Chase, one of the top pitchers in the history of the conference, owns CSU-Pueblo records in virtually every pitching statistic, and was named 2001 RMAC Pitcher of the Year after posting 30 wins. She recorded 520 strikeouts over three seasons (1999-2001), and owns career school records in ERA, strikeouts, wins and saves.
Toussaint, an all-American at CSU-Pueblo in 2001, owns CSU-Pueblo career records in home runs, RBI, and doubles. In 2001, she led the nation in doubles with 29. An outfielder and catcher at CSU-Pueblo, she played from 1998-2001, and was named the only academic all-American in the program's history in 2001.
The RMAC All-Time Softball Team was selected by representatives from the conference's schools that participate in the sport of softball. Records for RMAC softball date back to the spring of 1980.
Former Mesa State outfielder Kelly Adams is the RMAC All-Time Top Player in softball. Adams was a two-time RMAC Player of the Year (2000 and 2001) and a two-time First Team All-American.
The RMAC All-Time Top Coach is Dan Simmons, who led Nebraska-Kearney to the title game of the 1999 NCAA Division II championships. Simmons also helped UNK capture six RMAC titles during his seven years in the league.
Six schools are represented on the 12-person all-time team. The ThunderWolves are tied for the second most entrants onto the team with two (with Mesa State; Nebraska-Kearney boasted five members on the team).
As part of the RMAC's Centennial Celebration, all-time teams are being selected in 19 RMAC sports. The RMAC's Centennial Celebration will take place on July 11, 2009 at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. A new all-time team will be recognized each month leading up to the celebration.
