Chesser's walk-off bomb seals doubleheader sweep
Game 1: CSU-Pueblo 5, Regis 2
Game 2: CSU-Pueblo 7, Regis 5 (9 inn.)
PUEBLO, Colo. - Lacey Chesser nailed a walk-off two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning against Regis Saturday, delivering a 7-5 Pack win and sealing a doubleheader sweep of the Rangers.
Chesser came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out and one runner on and the game tied at 5, sending a long drive over the centerfield fence to rescue the Pack in a game where momentum looked to be in the Rangers' hands.
CSU-Pueblo, leading 5-3 going in to the top of the 7th inning, gave up two Regis runs as the Rangers tied it at five. In extras, CSU-Pueblo put its ace, Justine Bosio (So., Santa Barbara, Calif.) on the mound in a relief appearance, and she helped keep the hot Regis bats in check, allowing just two hits over two innings.
Bosio carried the Pack in the day's opener, a 5-2 CSU-Pueblo win, turning in a complete game four-hitter, striking out five Regis batters on the day. She also helped her own cause with a home run in the fifth inning, one of two CSU-Pueblo dingers in the first game. Dannielle Oliva (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) nailed the game's big shot, a solo shot in the third that put CSU-Pueblo up a comfortable 4-0 and paving the way for the 5-2 win.
The ThunderWolves improve to 9-3 with the win and an RMAC West Division-leading 5-1 in conference play.
The Pack will wrap up its four-gamer with Regis with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. Sunday.
