Bosio's arm, bat lifts Pack to sweep

Game1: CSU-Pueblo 9, Regis 1  (5 inn.)
Game 2: CSU-Pueblo 6, Regis 5

PUEBLO, Colo. - Fueled by a standout day by Justine Bosio (So., Santa Barbara, Calif.), who claimed two wins in the circle and a launched a walk-off homer, CSU-Pueblo claimed the four-game sweep of Regis Sunday, winning 9-1 in five innings, and 6-5 in the late game.

In game one, CSU-Pueblo used two big innings and capitalized on several errors to make quick work of the Rangers.  Annalyse Garcia (Fr., Frederick, Colo.), making just her third start of the season, seized the opportunity given by head coach Shane Showalter, belting a three-run homerun in the bottom half of a big 4th inning for the Pack.

In the 5th inning Garcia once again stepped to the plate with the Pack leading 7-1 and hit another bomb, enacting the eight-run mercy rule and finishing off the Rangers 9-1 in five innings.

In the nightcap, CSU-Pueblo found themselves down 5-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.  A leadoff double for Bosio was immediately followed by a two-run homerun by Lacey Chesser (Fr., Oxnard, Calif.), bringing the Pack right back into the game, 5-3, going into the 7th inning.

Kelly Purcell (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) led off the inning with a walk, and two outs later, Bosio, who came on to pitch in relief in the top of the inning, crushed a 2-2 pitch over the leftfield wall, giving CSU-Pueblo the dramatic 6-5 victory.  The home run was Bosio’s third of the year and made her the winning pitcher for the second time Sunday and fourth time this weekend.

With the sweep, the Pack, now at 11-3, is in the midst of a seven-game winning streak and off to its best start since 2000 when it began 12-2 through its first 14 games.  The Pack's quick start, however, will be tested next week when it travels to Metro State for a showdown with the ninth-ranked Roadrunners.
