ThunderWolves score first series win over Metro State in school history.
DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - March 11, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo split a pair with Metro State Sunday, losing 3-2 before winning 5-3, making it three for four on the series and marking the Pack's first ever series win over the Roadrunners.
Metro State, which quickly rose to national prominence after starting its program in 2008, had only done as badly as split a four-game series with CSU-Pueblo before dropping three of four this weekend.
The ThunderWolves left eight runners stranded in the first game Sunday, giving up the lead on a fourth inning home run by Metro State's Chelsea Drew, which put the Roadrunners up for good by a 3-1 score. Justine Bosio (Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) registered the Pack's only RBIs, knocking in two in the loss.
In the second game, CSU-Pueblo clinched the series win, relying on a stellar effort in the circle by Bosio, who improved to 5-2 with the win. She allowed just three Metro State hits.
Despite her outing, the ThunderWolves still needed some last-minute heroics to pull off the win. With the score tied 3-3 entering the top of the 7th inning, the Pack came through with three singles to start the inning, going ahead on an RBI single by Aimee Spathias (Jr., Glendora, Calif.), and getting insurance on another RBI single by Alexa Snyder (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.), delivering the 5-3 win.
The ThunderWolves improved to 9-7 on the young season and 7-5 in conference play after taking the weekend series, currently sitting in third place in the RMAC standings. The Pack will return home next weekend when it hosts Regis.
