Pack claims sweep of defending RMAC champs
ThunderWolves claim sixth straight home win with doubleheader sweep.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 17, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo rode solid pitching efforts and clutch hitting to claim two wins over defending RMAC champions, Regis, winning 5-4 and 6-2 Saturday.
The Pack showed off its versatility by throwing two completely different lineups at the Rangers, and coming through with 11 and 10 hits, respectively, in the wins.
Marissa Reyes (So., Santa Paula, Calif.) led the way in the first game, not only holding Regis to seven hits in claiming her fourth win of the season, but slamming a two-run home run in the top of the first inning that gave the ThunderWolves the breathing room it needed to gain the early lead.
Regis would surge, however, going up 4-3 in the third inning. But the Pack tied it in the fifth on an RBI-double by Justine Bosio (Santa Barbara, Calif.), scoring Reyes and deadlocking the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, Aimee Spathias (Jr., Glendora, Calif.) extended her hit streak to four as she knocked in the game-tying run on a single through the gap, scoring McKenzie Joseph (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif.) and helping secure the 5-4 win.
In the second game, the dramatics were practically non-existent outside of a short-lived 2-0 lead by Regis, which the Pack overturned by a two-run third inning, and surpassed it by posting another two in the bottom of the fourth, benefitting from two unearned runs to take a 4-2 lead.
Sarah Bosshart (Sr., Irvine, Calif.) plated the Pack's final two runs with a two-run blast in the sixth, giving the ThunderWolves all the insurance it needed to claim the win.
In the circle, Bosio improved to 6-2, allowing two runs on seven hits.
CSU-Pueblo will finish up its four-game set with Regis with another doubleheader Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
