ThunderWolves narrowly miss out on bid for first place

Pack splits mid-week doubleheader with Adams State, remains a game out of first place.

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 4, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo split a mid-week doubleheader with Adams State Wednesday, winning 14-6 after losing 6-5, denying itself an opportunity to surge into first place in the RMAC standings.

The ThunderWolves played itself into a position to capture the first game after going down 5-0 early on.  CSU-Pueblo would use a three-run home run by Sarah Bosshart (Sr., Irvine, Calif.) and a two-run fifth inning to even the score at 5-5.  But the game-winning for Adams State came in the top of the 7th on an RBI double by Erica Ecsedy, making for the final 6-5 line.

The second game was also shaping up to be a battle, but CSU-Pueblo pulled away after early back and forth blows were exchanged.

Adams State went up 3-0 in the first inning, but the Pack upped the ante by using two Adams State errors and six singles to mount a four-run first and take a 4-3 lead.

After the Grizzlies tied it 4-4 in the second, the Pack dropped another "four" on Adams State, this time benefitting from two walks and an error as well as two hits to go up 8-4.

From there, it was up to Shannon Traxinger (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) to hold down the fort, and she did so by allowing six runs on nine hits, claiming her fourth straight win in as many starts.

The ThunderWolves will get just one day of rest before getting back at it Friday when it hosts New Mexico Highlands at the Rawlings Softball Complex for a Friday/Saturday series.
