LAS VEGAS, NM (April 14, 2017) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball dropped a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games Friday at New Mexico Highlands falling 3-1 in game one and succumbing 2-0 in the nightcap at Brandt Field.
In the first game NMHU scored a single run in the second inning on a double down the leftfield line. The Cowgirls extended the lead in their next at bat scoring two runs on two hits and taking advantage of a Pack error in the frame.
The ThunderWolves were kept scoreless until the seventh inning when Gabby Moreno (Fr., 3B, Scottsdale, Ariz.) hammered a double to left centerfield to avoid the shutout.
Pack starting pitcher K'Lee Kent (Jr., Hobbs, NM) lasted 2.1 innings and allowed three runs, two earned and scattered four hits.
Shannon Lieber (Sr., Lone Tree, Colo.) came on to pitch in the third inning and also went 2.1 innings and gave up no runs and just one hit to the Cowgirls.
Pack hurler Lexie Martindale (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) tossed 1.1 innings of relief and allowed one hit.
Kent was hit with the loss, dropping to 3-9 on the season.
In game two, costly errors were the headline in the 2-0 Pack defeat.
NMHU scored single runs in each of the third and fifth innings to pull away.
The ThunderWolves were kept at bay offensively managing just three hits in the contest. The Pack got their first hit in the third inning and collected two more in the sixth.
Lieber was tabbed with the loss and falls to 2-6 on the year.
The Pack returns to action Saturday and concludes the series with NMHU. Game one is scheduled for 11 a.m. first pitch at Brandt Field.
