Prior to joining the ThunderWolves' staff, Hughes was the head coach for three years from 2004-2007 at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn.  There, turning the program around, she took her team to two 30-plus win seasons and also received the 2007 District-11 Coach of the Year honor.  She was also selected in 2006 and 2007 as a coach for the Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association All-Star Team, which plays against the top players in the mid-state.

Hughes graduated in 1999 from Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn.  There she was part of 3 State Championship contenders with a 214-37 overall four year record.  Once graduated, Hughes continued on to play second base for Jackson State Community College in Jackson, Tenn.  There she was a stand out finishing up her career with a .354 batting average.  In 2001 Hughes was inducted into the Jackson State Hall Of Fame as well as being named 2001 Tennessee Player Of The Year.

After her two years at Jackson State, Hughes continued her playing career in playing Division I softball for The University of Tennessee at Martin under Head Coach Donley Canary.  There she received her bachelor's degree in Secondary Business Education.  As a second baseman for the Skyhawks, she held records for most stolen bases and attempts.  She received All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in 2002 and 2003.  She was also selected as second baseman for the 2002 and 2003 OVC All Conference Tournament Team.

Hughes completed her Master's in Education in December of '09. Stephanie and her husband, Hunter, the Defensive Coordinator for the ThunderWolves' football team, reside in Pueblo.
