Pack track and field heads north to CU Invitational Friday-Saturday

CU HOME MEET INFORMATION

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 6, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's track and field programs travel to the University of Colorado Invitational April 7-8 in Boulder, Colorado.

Events start at the Potts Track on the campus of CU at 3 p.m. Friday with the hammer throw, javelin and triple jump. The action continues Saturday at 11 a.m. with throws (shot put and discus), field events (long jump, high jump and pole vault) and track races (steeplechase). The final event is the 4x400 meter relays slated for 3 p.m.

The ThunderWolves are coming off nine event victories and five provisional marks at the CSU-Pueblo Open Saturday-Sunday. Most notably, junior Tatianna Clanton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) gathered four event wins both as an individual (long jump and 100m dash) and as a member of two relay teams (4x100m and 4x400m). Junior Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) ran to a victory in the 3000m steeplechase and set an NCAA provisional time that ranks fifth nationally.

On the women's side, senior Bailey Hughes (Bigfork, Mont.) ranks eighth in the 10,000m run, while junior Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) is 10th in the event.. senior Sydni Riley (Florissant, Colo.) ranks 14th nationally in the 800m run, which she established at the CSU-Pueblo Open. Roberts is also 19th in the steeplechase.

For the men in the top 20 nationally, Williams leads the way in fifth in the steeple. Senior Dante Carter (Las Vegas, Nev.) ranks 10th in the 1500m run and 11th in the 5000m. Freshman Thomas Staines (Colorado Springs, Colo.) ranks 12th in the 800m, while fellow freshman Paul Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) sits 16th in the 5000m.

The Pack men fell just outside the top 25 nationally in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll to No. 22.
