Massari opening-night crowd best of season in RMAC

Friday, Massari Arena was rockin', and a lot of people came-a-knockin'.

In fact, the amount of people that came out made for the largest crowd on hand to watch a basketball game in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this season.

The Pack drew 2,348 crazy fans into Massari Arena Friday for the men's game against New Mexico Highlands, the highest attendance total at a basketball game this season by nearly 150.  The annual rivalry between Adams State and Western State drew 2,175 on Jan. 26 in Alamosa, the only other game to take place at an RMAC school this season to draw more than 2,000 fans.

The amount of people coming out to the men's game grew by nearly 1,000 over the women's game, which drew 1,387.  The women's attendance figure is one of the highest in the conference, but didn't snag the title of biggest draw.  That same contest between Western and Adams had 1,927 at its women's contest.

The Pack will try to beat that number Saturday night when Western New Mexico comes to town as the ThunderWolves have a playoff spot on the line.  If the men win and get losses by Regis and Western State, as well, they will earn the final spot in the field of eight in the RMAC Shootout.

The women have already qualified as the five-seed, and have nailed down a date to travel to Grand Junction to take on Mesa State in the opening round of the Shootout.
