Pack inks two in early signing period
ThunderWolves add two standouts from winning high school programs.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 16, 2010) - The CSU-Pueblo women's basketball squad added two signees during early signing period this week, inking Broomfield (Colo.) High School standout, Katie Nehf (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield HS) and Oregon-native Emily Dungey (Wilsonville, Ore./Wilsonville HS) to the 2011-12 squad.
Both are entering their senior seasons at their respective schools in 2010-11.
Nehf, a member of the girls' basketball factory at Broomfield, which has produced four-straight Colorado 4A State Basketball Championships, is a 6-foot-1 forward who started all 28 of the team's games as a junior. Last season, she averaged 4.1 steals and 2.8 assists per game and was named first-team all-conference and honorable-mention all-region. She plans to major in biology at CSU-Pueblo.
"Katie comes from one of the elite high school programs in the state of Colorado and understands the commitment and sacrifice that is required to being a member of a winning program," Pack head coach Kip Drown said. "She is a long athletic, forward who can run and jump and is very aggressive on the defensive end. Katie can knock down the three and can also post up on the block if needed. She is a person of outstanding character and academic ability and we are really excited to what she brings to our program both on and off the court."
Dungey, a 5-foot-11 wing who helped led Wilsonville to the brink of a state title last season, finishing second in the state, averaged 10.4 points per game as a junior, registering 3.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.1 steals per contest. She plans on majoring in business at CSU-Pueblo. She was an honorable mention all-conference selection as a sophomore and third-team all-conference choice as a junior.
"Emily is an excellent shooter with a great feel for the game and great court vision," Drown said. "She is extremely unselfish and fits right into our up tempo system of basketball. Emily is a person of outstanding character and academic ability that will represent the program in a first class manner both on and off the court."
The ThunderWolves will be looking for this duo to keep up its excellence, having four out of the past five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships and each of the past three titles. CSU-Pueblo has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament four of the past five seasons, as well.
