Pack back to winning ways with victory over Rangers
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 14, 2012) - After suffering their first home loss of the season Friday night the CSU-Pueblo women's basketball team was eager to get back to their winning ways. Although at times sloppy, the Pack was able to defeat Regis Saturday 58-45.
The Pack rushed out to an early 18-2 lead, but Regis took advantage of miscues by the ThunderWolves to cut into the early lead. In the game the ThunderWolves committed 21 turnovers and missed numerous layups to keep the Rangers in the game.
The sluggish played continued into the second half where Regis was able to hit key 3-pointers to cut the lead down to seven points.
But CSU-Pueblo was able to overcome the surge in confidence by the Rangers with the play of Jennelle Branting (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) as she hit key layups down the stretch to keep a comfortable lead for the Pack. Branting finished with a game high 16 points while collecting four rebounds.
Branting hit another clutch 3-pointer with just under two minutes to play to put the game out of reach for the Rangers.
Laurel Kearsley (Jr., Victor, Idaho) had another solid game scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to finish with her fourth career double-double.
The Pack struggled to gain any rhythm as they used numerous lineups and 10 players to find a working combination.
In the end the ThunderWolves were too much for the Rangers and the early 16-point lead was too much to overcome.
The Pack finishes up their four-game home stand next weekend starting with a game against Chadron State Friday. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
