PUEBLO, Colo. (November 28, 2016) – The Women's Division II Bulletin in association with SNA Sports named Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball Head Coach Jim Turgeon its Coach of the Month for November.
Turgeon earned this award after leading the Pack to its first 6-0 start since 1975-76. Now in his second season at CSU-Pueblo, Turgeon holds a record of 32-6 at the helm for the Pack. In his first season the team set a program record with 26 wins and won their fifth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
Last week, CSU-Pueblo made its first appearance in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll, ranking No. 17. The Pack also jumped to the No. 8 spot in the Division II Sports Information Directors Association poll.
As a team, CSU-Pueblo ranks 25th in the nation in scoring with 80.2 points per game. The Pack makes 83.9 percent of their shots from the free throw line, the fourth best percentage in the NCAA.
CSU-Pueblo also sinks 39.8 percent of its 3-pointers, 13th best in the nation. Grabbing 10.5 boards per game more than their opponents, the Pack ranks 27th in the nation in rebounding margin.
After becoming the first Pack coach to lead his team to an undefeated non-conference schedule, Turgeon will lead the ThunderWolves into their RMAC opener Friday at Fort Lewis College. The Pack and Skyhawks will meet at 5:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 2.
