PUEBLO, Colo. (January 3, 2017) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball begins the new year ranked No.9 in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and Division II Sports Information Directors Association poll.
The Pack stands as just one of six remaining unbeaten teams in Division II. They defeated Black Hills State University 66-55 in their only game last week to improve to 13-0.
Additionally, CSU-Pueblo is the only team with an unbeaten record (7-0) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. They have defeated all seven of their RMAC opponents by double-digits. No other RMAC team is ranked in either poll. The ThunderWolves have defeated RMAC opponents by an average of 17.1 points per game.
After an 18-for-20 performance at the line against Black Hills State, the Pack ranks ninth in the nation in free throw shooting. As a team, the ThunderWolves shoot 78.3 percent of their shots from the charity stripe.
Defensively, the ThunderWolves rank 14th in the country in field goal percentage defense. Opponents shoot just 33.5 percent against the Pack. Conference opponents have made just 29.8 percent of their tries from the field against the ThunderWolves.
CSU-Pueblo will play for the first time in 2017 when they visit South Dakota School of Mines Friday Jan.6 at 5:30 p.m. They will also compete against the Yellow Jackets in a rematch of the Pack's most recent game.
