PUEBLO, Colo. (February 21, 2017) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball returned to the top five in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll, ranking No. 5. The ThunderWolves also remained No.4 in the Sports Information Directors Association poll for the second consecutive week.
CSU-Pueblo bounced from their first loss of the 2016-17 season with an 80-72 victory over Colorado Christian University on senior night at Massari Arena. With their win over the Cougars, the Pack also clinched their first outright Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship in 29 years.
The Pack now stands 25-1 and has a 19-1 record in RMAC games. Their 19 RMAC wins set a new school record.
Nationally, CSU-Pueblo boasts the sixth best field goal percentage in D-II. The Pack limits opponents to 33.9 percent from the field. Jim Turgeon's team ranks 19th in D-II with 5.0 blocks per game. The Pack also ranks 12th in the country in free throw percentage, making 77.6 percent of their tries from the stripe.
The ThunderWolves also lead the RMAC with 74.0 points per game. Their .427 field goal percentage also tops the conference.
With the RMAC title already sewn up, the Pack will wrap up the regular season with a two-game road trip this weekend. The Pack will visit Western State Colorado University Friday at 5p.m. CSU-Pueblo concludes its regular season with a trip to Colorado Mesa University Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
The Pack will open the RMAC Tournament at home Tuesday Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. CSU-Pueblo Men's Basketball will host its RMAC Shootout Quarterfinals game 30 minutes after the completion of the Pack Women's game. Tickets will go on sale at 12 p.m. Feb. 28.
