Leslie Haywood is entering her sixth season as top assistant for the CSU-Pueblo women's basketball program and seventh season on the coaching staff with ThunderWolves basketball.
Simply put, Haywood is a champion, having helped coach the ThunderWolves to RMAC titles in three of her seven seasons on the coaching staff and four trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. In the six seasons she has been the program's top assistant coach, she has ended the season cutting down the nets at the RMAC Tournament three times.
Haywood is a veteran of ThunderWolves basketball, having played for the Pack from 2002 to 2006. She was a member of of the 2006 RMAC Championship team in Coach Drown's first season at the helm, the first squad in school history to qualify for the NCAA tournament. Prior to that season, Haywood played for three seasons under coach Misty Murphy. She excelled in the program, showing prowess as a three-point shooter and defensive specialist.
Haywood owned the school record for most games played in a career as recently as the 2007-08 season, having been eclipsed by Kaylon Miller late in the 07-08 campaign while Haywood was assistant coach.
A gradaute of Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Haywood was born and raised in Denver. She graduated from CSU-Pueblo in 2006 with a degree in business management and marketing.
For the 2006-07 season, Haywood joined the ThunderWolves' staff as the team's second assistant, and was promoted to the first assistant position prior to the 2007-08 season season.
Her duties include recruiting of prospective student-athletes, organizing the team's strength training, planning community service events, Academic coordinator, and assisting in scheduling, team travel and fundraising.
Haywood is currently working on her Master's Degree in Education. She is extremely close to her family, including her mom, dad, and brother, Joel.
