Pack puts up best team score in history at Regis

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Paced by sophomore Kelly Meldrum (So., Gunnison, Colo.), who continued her stark improvement in 2009 by turning in a stellar +18 162, shattering her personal bests, the ThunderWolves put up a team mark of 689, the lowest team score in program history, at the Regis Invite Tuesday.
Meldrum was incredibly consistent, shooting a +10 82 in the first round, her finest individual round of her collegiate career, and topped it in the second round, shooting a +8 80. She finished in 12th place.
Her two-round 162 was more than 12 strokes better than her previous career best of 174, which she turned in at her first tournament appearance as a freshman in 2008. Her performance was a staggering 23 strokes better than her previous best showing in 2009, a 185 put up last week at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix.
Meldrum wasn't alone in showing improvement, as Sawyer Bisel (Fr., Canon City, Colo.) broke her personal collegiate best, shooting a +26 170, besting her previous best by 10 strokes.
"We had some kids really stepping up out there today," Pack coach Greg Dillon said, "and we have a team that doesn't give up. We are a young team and we'll only get better and this is a great first step."
CSU-Pueblo will take the rest of the fall off before returning to competition in the spring.
