Pack sets records behind Kim's record-breaking debut
ThunderWolves equal team-best round as Kim sits in first place.
AMARILLO, Tex. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 10, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo started its season Monday at the West Texas A&M Stampede in Canyon, Texas, kicking off its season with a bang.
Behind a school-record performance by Leina Kim (RFr., Saipan, CNMI), the ThunderWolves tied a school record for lowest individual round team score as it shot a 318, good enough for 5th place in a very competitive tournament that features some of the top teams in the nation.
"We want to be in the national spotlight and playing teams this caliber here in Texas will let us see if we are where we want to be," Head Coach Greg Dillon said.
The women played very well as a team, but Kim stole the spotlight. She finished tied for first with two other golfers and finished the round with a 1-over-par 73.
The Pack shot a 30-over-par 318. Currently the ThunderWolves are in fifth place out of the 14 teams participating at Cascosa.
"We finished with a pretty good round, but we got to keep it up with how close this competition is," Dillon said.
Other top 40 individual finishers included Michaela Breit (Jr., Greeley, Colo.), who finished tied for 26th, and Julie Sanchez (So., Pueblo, Colo.) finished tied for 36th. Last year's RMAC Championship winner, Domi Dinallo (Jr, Elephant Butte, N.M.) finished tied for 43rd.
"This is thrilling," Dillon said. "I am excited for the future of this program as the roster is filled with freshmen, sophomores and juniors."
The ThunderWolves will play the final round of the Lady Buff Classic on Tuesday.
