PUEBLO, Colo. (November 8, 2016) – The votes are in and juniors Leah Neumann (Naperville, Ill.), Rachael Welzin (Farmington, Minn.) and sophomore Allison Kobel (So., Torrance, Calif.) were elected captains of Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse.
"I am extremely excited to announce our captains for the 2017 season," Head Coach Monica Potter said.
"All three captains are hard-working, committed and have a great working relationship with the team and the coaches."
Kobel played in 13 games and made seven starts as a freshman. She scored two goals and added two assists.
Neumann scored a school-record 39 goals in 2016. She finished with five assists and 44 points. Neumann had 25 ground balls and controlled 43 draws. She earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors March 29, with seven goals and two assists against Westminster College and Regis University.
Welzin ranked fifth in the RMAC with 2.80 ground balls per game in 2016. She placed seventh in the conference with 1.60 caused turnovers per game. As a sophomore, Welzin received Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. She also earned a spot on the RMAC's All-Academic Honor Roll.
"They each bring a different leadership style that complements the others," Potter said. "I am looking forward to working with them and am very confident these three will help lead our team to a successful season both on and off the field."
Both Welzin and Neumann begin their second season as captains of the Pack. The ThunderWolves will open their season Feb. 18, 2017 with a visit to Regis. CSU-Pueblo's home opener will be held March 10, 2017 against Fort Lewis College.
