Christensen’s career day leads Pack to 15-3 win over Adams State University

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 9, 2017) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Lacrosse dominated Adams State University Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium, knocking off the Grizzlies, 15-3.

The Pack completed a weekend sweep, after handling University of Colorado Colorado Springs 18-5 Saturday. CSU-Pueblo outscored its opponents 33-8 for the weekend as the Pack improved to 3-7. Though Sunday's game did not count towards the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, the Pack holds a 2-5 mark in RMAC games. Adams State slipped to 1-10 (0-6 RMAC).

CSU-Pueblo outshot the Grizzlies 36-7. The ThunderWolves also enjoyed a 23-14 advantage in ground balls. They controlled 14 draws compared to just five for Adams State.

Taylor Christensen (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) set a new career-high with five goals. She broke her previous career-best set one day earlier against UCCS. Christensen has now scored in every game this season. Her 24 goals in 2017 stands as a career high and ranks second on the Pack.

Christensen also controlled two draws and came up with three ground balls. She also forced a pair of turnovers.

Leah Neumann (Jr., Napeville, Ill.) matched Christensen with nine goals for the weekend. Neumann tacked on four more goals in the win over the Grizzlies. The co-captain led the Pack with seven draw controls.

Allison Wurscher (So., Tigard, Ore.) and Alix Zierden (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) each pocketed a pair of goals for the Pack. Zierden leads the Pack with 25 on the season.

Maxine Bartholomew (Jr., Elk Grove, Calif.) handed out three assists for the Pack. The three assists set a new career-high for Bartholomew. She also corralled three ground balls and caused a turnover.

Rachael Welzin (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) scored a goal for the second consecutive game. Welzin added three ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

Chloe Sharko (So., Naperville, Ill.) fired in her first goal of the season. Sharko would add an assist.

Freshmen Elyse Ingram (San Jose, Calif.) and Ali Doyle (Portland, Ore.) both delivered three ground balls for the Pack. Doyle registered two assists. Ingram added an assist, a caused turnover, and a groundball.

Zierden scored the first two goals of the game for the Pack to put the home team up 2-0. Adams State retaliated with a goal of its own. The Pack responded with a 7-0 run to close the first half with a 9-1 lead. Christensen had a hat trick in the first half. Wurscher and Neumann both scored twice during this run.

Neumann netted the first two goals of the second half for the ThunderWolves to make it a 9-0 run. After being held scoreless for almost 30 minutes, the Grizzlies got on board with a pair of goals to make it 11-3. The Pack would tack on four insurance goals as they came away with a 15-4 win.

April McDonough (Jr., Frisco, Texas) made three saves on six shots for the Pack. McDonough bettered her record to 3-4. Alyse Mims took the loss for the Grizzlies, making nine saves.

The Pack will look to add to its two game win streak when they face Concordia University (St. Paul) Friday at 4 p.m.  at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium The ThunderWolves will wrap up their three game homestand Saturday April 15 at 12 p.m. against Westminster College.
