CSU-Pueblo wrestling snags three former local champs
A new program needs a good foundation, and CSU-Pueblo wrestling coach Dax Charles has found it with a few 'walk-ons' that are anything but.
Two former Pueblo East High School standouts, Joseph Leyba and Matt Basquez, and a former state champion from La Junta High School, Quinn Donnell, are already attending classes at CSU-Pueblo and plan to be an integral part of the team in 2008-09.
Leyba and Basquez had numerous quals to state in their time at East, and Basquez got as high as state-runner up. Donnell won state in 2003 with the Tigers, wrestling under then-head coach, John Haberman.
Leyba, Basquez and Donnell will join the squad in April.
