First home ThunderWolf wrestling match since 2001, presented by Pueblo Bank & Trust, to feature numerous promotions and contests
PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 2, 2009) - For the first time in nearly eight years, collegiate wrestling will have a home at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
The CSU-Pueblo wrestling program, currently in its first season of competition since the program was disbanded in 2001, will host its first home wrestling dual on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Massari Arena on the CSU-Pueblo campus when the ThunderWolves will entertain the Mesa State Mavericks in the Pack's conference-opening dual match. The match will be a doubleheader with local high school wrestling, as a dual match between Pueblo West High School and Alamosa High School will directly precede the ThunderWolves' bout. The ThunderWolves will continue a home stand Thursday when they host another conference foe, Adams State. The Wednesday dual begins at 5 p.m. (starting with high school action) and the Thursday dual begins at 7 p.m.
The matches will feature many contests and promotions in addition to high-level wrestling action. Fans will be asked to show their support by participating in a "Red Out" on Wednesday and Thursday. Fans are being asked to don red hats and t-shirts to help fill Massari Arena with red.
Fans will also get a change to take part in the "Crawl for Cash," a unique contest that gives fans a chance to win cold hard cash during the match's intermission. Fans can also participate in the "Pin and Win" promotion, as one of ten fans can win CSU-Pueblo wrestling prizes if a Pack wrestler records a pin of his opponent.
All tickets to the Pack's wrestling match will be general admission and sold for $5 each, which includes both the high school and collegiate matches. Additionally, any fan who pays regular price for the Pack's Jan. 7 bout with Mesa State can bring their ticket stub to the following night's dual with Adams State, and receive $2 admission.
Youth Wrestling Clubs are also encouraged to attend the match, receiving free admission for their entire team to the Mesa State dual. To sign up for this promotion, contact CSU-Pueblo Associate Athletic Director, Niki Whitaker, at (719)549-2021.
Additionally, the 2009 CSU-Pueblo Wrestling ThunderPup Clinic will take place on Saturday, Jan. 10 at Massari Arena. The clinic will be held from Noon until 2p.m. at Massari Arena located on the CSU-Pueblo campus.
The ThunderPup Club, presented by Wendy's, is open to all boys and girls in southern Colorado who are in the 8th grade and below. The cost to participate is a one-time fee of $10.00, which includes an official ThunderPup Club t-shirt, free admission to attend all remaining ThunderPup sports clinics throughout the year, and an official ThunderPup Membership Card (free admission to all CSU-Pueblo home games and discounts at all Pueblo, La Junta and Canon City Wendy's locations).
