ThunderWolves lose close matches, fall to Fort Hays St.
#17 Fort Hays State 27, CSU-Pueblo 6
The Pack was on the short end of five decisions decided by three points or less as the ThunderWolves lost a tough dual 27-6 to 17th-ranked Fort Hays State.
The Pack netted two wins, one coming from Tony Chavarria (So., Pueblo West, Colo.), the eighth-ranked 197-pounder in the nation, scored a 7-5 decision over Steven Kyler for the Pack's first win of the night. Chavarria improved to 15-7 with the win.
Louie DeSantis (Sr., Escondido, Calif.), who wrestled at 149 pounds, a weight where he's been a perfect 2-0 this season, improved to 3-0 at 149 and 12-10 overall after a sudden victory win over Levi Younkin by a 3-1 score. Younkin knocked DeSantis out of the RMAC Championships last season.
But the Pack lost five other matches in slim decisions, making the match break for the Tigers. CSU-Pueblo didn't allow any pins on the night.
The ThunderWolves, now 7-5 overall and 3-2 in RMAC duals, will travel to Golden this weekend for the Colorado Mines Open, the final tournament of the season before the RMAC Championships.
