The brackets for the 2010 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships have been released, and the Pack's three national qualifiers all have stiff competition in their quest to be all-American and national champions.
Louie DeSantis (Sr., Escondido, Calif.) got the most favorable seed after winning his regional title, drawing Upper Iowa's Derek Stolarzyk, who at 16-8 finished fourth in the Super Region Three championships. The 149-pound weight class is overall a relatively even weight, as just two of the 16 national qualifiers have five losses or less.
Justin Grant (Jr., Winnemucca, Nev.) at 165 pounds and heavyweight Patrick Carey (Jr., Tempe, Ariz.) weren't as lucky - finishing fourth in the region, they drew the nation's top-ranked wrestler at each of their respective weights. Grant will face Mercyhurst (PA)'s Josh Shields, who comes in with a 34-3 mark. Carey has Minnesota State-Mankato's Brady Wilson in the opening match, who enters nationals with a 29-4 mark.
The 2010 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships will take place in Omaha, Neb. March 12 and 13. The top eight finishers at each weight earn all-American honors.
