Pack a takedown away from going 2-for-3 at Tracy Borah Duals
CSU-Pueblo annihilates Western Wyoming, falls one point short of defeating Division I Air Force.
GUNNISON, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 15, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo battled hard in three duals at the 2011 Tracy Borah Duals at Western State College in Gunnison Saturday, winning one of three against tough competition.
The ThunderWolves annihilated Western Wyoming 34-9, but was just a takedown away from recording a win against Division I Air Force, losing 18-17. CSU-Pueblo lost to nationally-ranked Findlay (Ohio) in the final match of the day, 24-9.
The dual with Air Force very well could have come down to the match between Trevor Grant (RFr., Winnemucca, Nev.) and Carter Adams at 174 pounds, which Adams won in a 7-6 decision, giving three team points to the Falcons, enough to swing the dual Air Force's direction.
The wrestler turning in the most impressive day was 141-pounder Jacob Snider (Fr., Parker, Colo.). Snider was the only ThunderWolf to go 3-0, which included two decision victories and a tech fall win against Air Force, besting Logan Burch 19-3.
Though the match with 14th-ranked Findlay seemed lopsided against the ThunderWolves, it featured two of the biggest upsets of the entire 2011 Tracy Borah Duals event.
Of the three matches the Pack won against Findlay, two were against highly-touted nationally-ranked wrestlers - 125-pounder Lyle Evans (Sr., Grantsville, Utah) got the 3-1 decision over Ben Sergent, the 8th-ranked 125-pounder in the nation, while 149-pounder Nick Stahler (So., Palmer, Alaska) was fairly dominant in defeating fourth-ranked Jeremy Espinoza, claiming the 5-1 decision.
CSU-Pueblo will finally open its home dual schedule Wednesday when Mesa State comes to town for an RMAC showdown.
