Pack uses timely wins and a little good luck to stick Grizzlies.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 10, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo grabbed its first RMAC dual win of the season in dramatic fashion Thursday night, getting a win in the final match of the night to upend perhaps its fiercest rival, Adams State, 24-20.
It was the second win in as many seasons over the Grizzlies, who entered Thursday's dual ranked 17th in the nation.
Though every match of the night was of paramount performance, the official tipping point came in the 165-pound match, where Justin Grant (Sr., Winnemucca, Nev.) claimed an 8-1 decision over Aaron Heredia to deliver an anticlimactic win.
The fireworks, though, were delivered in the previous match at 157 pounds.
Matt Addington (Fr., Florence, Colo.) entered the third period trailing Justin Samora 4-1, and opened with a takedown and a two-point near fall, suddenly boosting him to a 5-4 lead. Samora scored on a reversal, but riding time points put the match to a sudden victory period, knotted at 6-6.
Addington wasted no time sticking Samora in the extra frame, quickly scoring a takedown and claiming an 8-6 win in what was undoubtedly the match of the night.
The Pack also got big breaks by receiving a forfeit at 141 pounds, as well as a win by disqualification at 125 pounds after an illegal hold late in the third period.
CSU-Pueblo, now 4-9 in duals this season, will travel to Chadron State Saturday to close its RMAC dual slate.
