Pack falls short against Oklahoma City

Pack records a pair of pins, but can't convert victory.

PUEBLO, Colo. ( - Feb. 8, 2012) - In a dual that came down the night's final match, CSU-Pueblo was edged by NAIA powerhouse, fifth-ranked Oklahoma City University, 24-19.

CSU-Pueblo wrestlers claimed two pins on the night, the first coming at 133 pounds as Jesse Hillhouse (Jr., Casper, Wyo.) improved to 26-5 with a pin at 4:50 of Alvie Killingsworth.  Entering the match Wednesday, Hillhouse was freshly named the nation's second-ranked wrestler at 133 pounds.

The Pack's second pin was turned in by Nick Stahler (Jr., Palmer, Alaska) at 149 pounds, who drove Will Shelton-Belk into the mat and stuck him immediately, gathering the speedy pin at just 1:03 of the first period.

Other Pack wins were turned in by Nick Mamalis (Jr., Green River, Wyo.), who claimed a 9-0 major decision shutout of Gage Harrison, and Adam Carey (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.), who reversed a four-match losing streak by winning a 3-2 decision over Andrew Pontikes.

The dual was decided, however, at heavyweight, as OCU's Mike Brown emerged with a 6-2 decision over Bill Gray (So., Ordway, Colo.) in a winner-take-all finale to the night.

CSU-Pueblo will now take to the road as it travels to Adams State Thursday night to take on the ninth-ranked Grizzlies in an RMAC showdown.
