PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 1, 2012) - The CSU-Pueblo wrestling team showcased its 2012-13 squad Friday in the annual Red/Blue Intrasquad scrimmage. The blue team took home a tightly contested match that saw many of the Pack's new faces showcase their talent.
Heavyweight Niko Bogojevic (So., Superior, Wis.) put on an impressive display in his preseason debut, making easy work of Mike Miller (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.). The junior college veteran and Olympic Training Center invitee welcomed the freshman to collegiate wrestling with an array of takedowns, highlighted by a big slam in the second period. Bogojevic would go on to defeat Miller 11-1 in a major decision.
Another newcomer showcased his skills as Jimmy Chase (So., Hanover Park, Ill.) showed why he was a highly-touted recruit at 141 pounds. Chase jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first period with a series of takedowns and a two-point nearfall. Chase cruised the rest of the way to defeat Adam Ortivez (Fr., La Veta, Colo.) 11-5.
The Pack also showed they have plenty of experience up and down the lineup as a number of returners picked up victories on the night. The scrimmage marked the return of national-qualifier, Trevor Grant (Jr., Winemucca, Nev.) as he scored a 15-4 major decision over Jack Wyman (Fr., Monument, Colo.).
The Pack will get a day off before competing in the first official tournament of the year when they travel to Laramie, Wyo. to compete in the Wyoming Cowboy Open.
