PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 15, 2012) - Wrestling in front of a raucous crowd at Pueblo South High School for the first dual match of the season, the CSU-Pueblo wrestling team used a dominating performance to defeat Wayland Baptist 56-0. The 56 points put up by the Pack is a team record for most points in a dual match.
It was a complete performance from top to bottom for the Pack who enjoyed victories in each of their 10 matches. Eight of the matches were won by pins, while the other two matches were won by major decision.
Ray Hall (Jr., Garfield, Ark.) kicked off the night at 174-pounds and gave the Pack an early lead by securing a fall at 2:56. Hall was briefly taken down in the first period, but countered with a reverse that he turned into a fall.
After Joe Giron (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) won with a major-decision 13-4, the Pack rattled off four straight falls to put the team up 34-0.
Jimmy Chase (So., Hanover Park, Ill.) didn't win by a fall but was just a dominant in his performance, winning 8-0 to secure the major-decision. Chase controlled much of the match as her recorded a takedown in the first period, before scoring three back points. He would also finish with one last takedown and 3:08 of riding time to add the final point for a major decision.
The Pack would finish off the match just as they started, scoring three falls in the final three matches. The most thrilling fall came when Nick Stahler (Sr., Palmer, Alaska) stuck his opponent at 4:59 in the second period to just beat out the buzzer.
The Pack will look to keep the momentum going as they travel Saturday to wrestle in the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open.
