GOLDEN, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 26, 2013) - The ThunderWolves sent several unattached wrestlers to the Rocky Mountain Open Saturday, highlighted by a second place finish by 184-pounder Matt Addington (Jr., Florence, Colo.).
Addington put in two impressive performances to open the tournament, winning on a pin at 3:52 over unattached Colorado State wrestler Michael Leroy before scoring a technical fall in his second match against Keith Lucero from Adams State. Addington added a 3-0 decision over Chuck Leuth to put him in the championship match. The championship match fell out of Addington's favor as he lost a 8-2 decision to Jon Inman of Fort Hays State.
The Pack also had three other wrestlers place beginning with a fifth place finish by 141-pounder Ryan Kirby (Jr., Byers, Colo.). Kirby pinned his opponent in the first match before losing his next two by 10-4 decisions. The losses set Kirby up in the fifth-place match against fellow ThunderWolf James Harvey, which he won by forfeit.
Larry Schmueser (So., Rifle, Colo.) and Jack Wyman (Fr., Monument, Colo.) also finished on the podium, both in fifth place. Schmueser navigated the 149-pound weight division, winning his first two matches before a loss sent him to the consolation bracket. Schmueser won a tough 4-2 decision over Cory Mitze to claim fifth place.
Wyman finished the day with a 3-2 record, highlighted by a 4-2 decision win over Ken Banning in the fifth place match, who earlier in the day defeated him.
The Pack will wrestle in two away dual matches beginning February 1 at Oklahoma City University at 7 p.m.
