EDMOND, Okla. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 2, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo dented third-ranked Central Oklahoma for two wins Saturday night, but couldn't muster more than that, losing 39-5 to the Bronchos.
CSU-Pueblo earned wins at 184 pounds, as Adam Carey (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) claimed a win against a longtime adversary, Tanner Keck, in a 3-1 sudden victory decision. It was the second straight time in which the two met and needed extra periods to determine a winner - last season, in a dual meeting in Pueblo, Carey and Keck needed three sudden victory rounds before Keck won on a controversial 7-6 decision. Carey left no controversy Saturday, scoring a takedown for the win.
In the heavyweight match, Niko Bogojevic (So., Superior, Wisc.) outlasted Cody Dauphin, the eighth-ranked heavyweight in the country, on tiebreaker points in the second overtime to win 4-3.
But aside from those two wins, CSU-Pueblo wrestlers couldn't crack the third-ranked team in the nation, which boasts five wrestlers ranked in the top eight nationally. The ThunderWolves' top wrestler, Jesse Hillhouse (Sr., Casper, Wyo.), did not travel for the dual.
CSU-Pueblo returns home next week for its final two duals of the season, first against #11 Grand Canyon Monday, then against Western State next Friday.
