Hillhouse, Kearsley help Pack sweep RMAC Athlete of the Month honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 4, 2013) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Jesse Hillhouse (Sr., Casper, Wyo.) and Laurel Kearsley (Sr., Victor, Idaho) have been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Athletes of the Month for January 2013.  The league's 14 sports information directors nominate student-athletes from their institution which are then selected by the RMAC office.

Hillhouse was a perfect 11-0 in the month of January, continuing to be the only RMAC wrestler to be ranked first in the nation. He was ranked No. 1 at 125 pounds all throughout the month. Hillhouse has the longest streak of number-one national rankings since the CSU-Pueblo wrestling program was restarted in 2008. Including a victory against Western Wyoming Community College, he has won 13 straight matches in total, the longest win streak by any ThunderWolf since former NCAA runner-up Brian Luna won 14 straight in 2001. So far this season, Hillhouse is 11-0 against competition from NCAA Division II and 23-3, including all matches.

Kearsley recorded four double-doubles in seven games in January, including a 30-point, 10-rebound effort versus Chadron State on January 25. She helped CSU-Pueblo to a second- place standing in the RMAC heading into February. Kearsley recorded solid defensive numbers, including 9.6 rebounds per game (6.4 defensive rebounds per game), 1.9 blocks per game, and 1.7 steals per game. She is currently the RMAC season leader in blocks and is second in rebounds. Kearsley is the only player in the RMAC to be ranked in the top 10 in each of the three major defensive categories (steals, rebounds, and blocks).
The awards mark the first time that CSU-Pueblo athletes have received the RMAC's Athlete of the Month award in the three-year history of the award.
