COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 4, 2013) - For the second time this year, Jesse Hillhouse (Sr., Casper, Wyo.) has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Month.
Hillhouse won the 125-pound national wrestling championship, becoming the first ThunderWolf to win a national title since 1999. He defeated Jerry Huff of Adams State 4-2 in sudden overtime to win the title. Hillhouse had not previously faced Huff this season, with Huff redshirting at the beginning of the season when the two teams dualed. Hillhouse, who was ranked fifth nationally after a loss in the NCAA Super Region 4 tournament, went on a title run that included wins over second-ranked Eric Forde of St. Cloud State and eighth-ranked Willie Bohince of Mercyhurst in the first and second rounds, respectively. He then defeated previously-ranked Jeff Vesta of Newberry to reach the title match with Huff, who was ranked third after winning the RMAC/NCAA Super Region 4 title. In the title match, Hillhouse scored a takedown 10 seconds into the sudden death overtime period to secure the victory.
Hillhouse was previously named the RMAC Athlete of the Month in January after going undefeated during that month and maintaining his number-one national ranking.
