Pack pushes three wrestlers into finals, five placers overall at UNC Open

Greeley, Colo. ( - Nov. 16, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo was represented with three finalists and five overall placers at the 2013 Northern Colorado Old Chicago Open Saturday. 

At 141 pounds, Chad Vandiver (Sr., Roscoe, Ill.) won an overtime bout to make the finals before ultimately losing a narrow 4-1 decision in the finals, finishing a respectable second in a bracket that featured 20 high-level wrestlers. 

Riley Argyle (Jr., Jerome, Idaho) finished second at 197 pounds for the ThunderWolves. Argyle won a pair of close matches to make the finals and put up a valiant effort in a 4-3 loss to Division I Brian Macchione from University of Northern Colorado. 

Returning national qualifier Niko Bogojevic (Jr., Superior, Wis.) continued his strong start to the season with a second place finish as well. The heavyweight scored a pin and an overtime victory before landing on the losing side of an overtime decision in the finals against Henry Chirino of UNC. 

Other notable finishes for the ThunderWolves included veteren and another former national qualifier in Trevor Grant (Sr., Winnemucca, Nev.), who cruised into the semifinals and ended with a fourth place finish at 165 pounds, and Jimmy Chase (Jr., Hanover Park, Ill.), who won four matches on his way to a third place finish. 

Next up for the ThunderWolves wrestling squad is a trip to Kearney, Neb. for the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open on Saturday, Nov. 23.
