GUNNISON, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com – Feb. 7, 2014) – Matt Addington (Jr., Florence, Colo.) and Tim Urenda (So., Pueblo, Colo.) each posted wins to lead visiting Colorado State University-Pueblo, which fell 27-6 to eighth-ranked Western State Colorado University, Friday night here in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference wrestling action in the Mountaineers' Paul W. Wright Gymnasium.
The Mountaineers won the other eight matches, although only one was by bonus-point margin, and improved to 9-2 overall, while solidifying their RMAC dual meet lead. They have now won six straight overall duals and are 6-1 in RMAC action.
The Pack slipped to 3-7 overall and to 1-3 in RMAC duals heading into a Saturday night encounter at Colorado Mesa.
After the Mountaineers got out to a 3-0 lead when Shawn Seppala won at 157 pounds, Addington tied the dual with a 4-3 win over Austin Harris at 165 pounds.
WSCU's Elliot Copeland, ranked third at 174 pounds, then claimed a 10-3 decision over CSU-Pueblo's Trevor Grant (Sr., Winnemucca, Nev.), handing Grant his first dual-meet loss of the campaign. Grant had won eight straight matches prior to Friday.
The Mountaineers then received a pin from seventh-ranked Kyle Piatt at 184 pounds and extended the lead to 18-3 with decisions at 197 and 285 pounds before Urenda shutout Dammion Heard at 125 pounds.
The Mountaineers then won three more bouts, all by decision, to complete the scoring.
