COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com – Apr. 8, 2014) — NCAA Division II All-American Trevor Grant (Sr., Winnemucca, Nev.) and junior Larry Schmueser (Rifle, Colo.) both earned repeat spots in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's First Team All-Academic squad for the sport of wrestling.
Meanwhile, Keith Karnes (R-Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was an honor roll selection.
To qualify for the awards, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher, be a starter or key reserve and have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution. Sports Information Directors from the nine institutions that sponsor wrestling nominated the athletes and selected the 10-member first team based on the student-athletes' accomplishments on the mat and in the classroom.
Grant, who is now a 4-time First Team honoree, holds a 3.403 GPA while majoring in biology with an emphasis in pre-dental. He earned his first career all-America honor with a seventh place finish in the 174-pound bracket of the NCAA Division II National Championships last month and finished second at the NCAA West Region/RMAC Championships.
A 3-time national tournament qualifier, he went 23-15 on the mat this year.
Schumeser, who holds a 3.703 GPA while majoring in construction management was also a First Team Academic All-RMAC pick in 2013. He went 11-19 this season while wrestling in both the 149 and 157-pound weight classes.
Karnes holds a 3.586 GPA and is majoring in political science.
