PUEBLO, Colo. (January 21, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team hosts a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual Thursday against Colorado Mesa University beginning at 7 p.m. at Massari Arena. Two lucky fans will walk away with tickets to the 2015 Jack Pinto Cup, a Greco-Roman international event at Antlers Hilton in Colorado Springs, Colorado set for Sunday, Jan. 25.
The Pack are 6-4 in duals this season, while Colorado Mesa holds a 9-0 dual record and ranks No. 19 nationally (Jan. 14 poll). Following Thursday's dual, the ThunderWolves travel to Chadron State College Jan. 23 for a conference bout beginning at 7 p.m. The Eagles are 6-6 in the dual season.
CSU-Pueblo went 1-0 in RMAC Jan. 15 when it hosted Adams State University and won 22-14. Adams State and CSU-Pueblo traded decisions for the first six matches and were knotted 9-9 at that point, then trailed 14-9 through seven, but victories in the final three matches by the Pack secured the win.
The ThunderWolves went on to post a 2-2 record at the Midwest Duals in Kearney, Nebraska Jan. 24. The Pack lost 27-18 to Southwest Minnesota State University before posting 34-10 and 43-12 victories against Newman University and Minot State University, respectfully. In the final dual of the day, the Pack lost 35-9 to No. 3 University of Nebraska-Kearney.
The Jack Pinto Cup
On January 25, from 2-4 pm, USA Wrestling would like to invite you to come watch the Men's Greco Roman team take on the World in the Jack Pinto Cup Series! The doors will be opening at 1:30 pm.
The event will be dual format with an MMA twist - with ten wrestlers per team. Each match will be leading up to the Main Event, at 75 KG featuring-2014 World medalist - Andy Bisek.Competing in the Co-Main Event will be 2008 & 2012 Olympian - Spencer Mango competing at 59 KG.Another US athlete slotted to compete is 2 x World Team member Robbie Smith at 130 KG.
Fans can look forward to seeing International & US World and Olympic Greco –Roman medalists compete against each other.
An event formerly known as the Kiki Cup, was renamed the Jack Pinto Cup starting in 2013, in loving memory of the six-year-old wrestler who was tragically killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. in December. Six-year-old Jack Pinto, one of the victims of the school shooting, was a first-year member of both the Newtown Youth Wrestling Association and USA Wrestling.
