COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 25, 2015) – Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling's JaCobi Jones (165, Omaha, Neb.) was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Wednesday, in a release from the league office.
Jones also earned All-RMAC First Team honors at 165, while senior 133 Eric Hughes (Bolivar, Mo.) was named All-RMAC Second Team.
Jones is the first ThunderWolves wrestler to earn a yearly honor from the RMAC since the program returned as a sponsored intercollegiate sport in 2008 and was one of just three freshmen on the first or second all-conference teams this year.
Jones compiled an 18-7 overall record with four falls in his freshman season. He recorded a perfect 5-0 record with one fall in RMAC duals. The Omaha, Nebraska native totaled a team-best 41 takedowns. Jones won his first collegiate event, as he went 4-0 at the DoubleTree Open Nov. 8. He finished second at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Holiday Inn Open Nov. 22.
Hughes posted a 12-6 record in 2014-15. He totaled four falls with 22 takedowns. The senior was perfect in RMAC duals with a 5-0 record and two falls. Hughes enters the NCAA West Regional ranked No. 8 nationally at 133.
The Pack are set to host the 2015 NCAA Division II Wrestling West Super Regional Feb. 27-28 at Massari Arena. The first session begins at 11 a.m. Friday.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
