PUEBLO, Colo. (March 12, 2015) – Colorado State University-Pueblo seniors Niko Bogojevic (HWT, Superior, Wis.) and Eric Hughes (133, Bolivar, Mo.) and freshman JaCobi Jones (165, Omaha, Neb.) are headed to the 2015 NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championships March 13-14 to compete for a national championship.
The Championships are set for St. Louis, Missouri at Chaifetz Arena. Session I begins Friday at 10 a.m. MT and all matches can be watched LIVE on TrackWrestling.com HERE.
Bogojevic enters his second appearance at the NCAA National Championships (qualified in 2013) with a record of 27-13, six falls and 32 takedowns. He finished second at heavyweight Nov. 15 at the Northern Colorado Open and third at the Bob Smith Open Dec. 7.
After placing fourth at the West Super Regional he will battle Ziad Haddad of Kutztown in the first round. Haddad won the East Super Regional, owns a perfect 26-0 record and ranks No. 1 nationally.
Hughes is ranked No. 7 nationally at 133, as he finished third at the NCAA West Super Regional Feb. 27-28 in Pueblo, Colorado. The All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Second Team honoree owns a 16-7 overall record with four pins. The senior was perfect in RMAC duals with a 5-0 record and two falls. In 2014-15, Hughes totaled 36 takedowns to rank third on the team.
Hughes is set to face Dakota Bauer of Maryville (Mo.) in the first round. Bauer finished second in the Central Super Regional and is ranked No. 8 in the nation with a record of 11-10.
Jones is the first CSU-Pueblo freshman to qualify for the national tournament since the program was brought back in 2008. The RMAC Freshman of the Year and All-RMAC First Team member finished fourth at the West Super Regional and enters the national meet with a 20-9 record and four pins. He recorded a perfect 5-0 record with one fall in RMAC duals and has totaled a team-best 46 takedowns. Jones won his first collegiate event, as he went 4-0 at the DoubleTree Open Nov. 8. He finished second at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Holiday Inn Open Nov. 22.
Jones will wrestle Juan Stimpson of UNC Pembroke. Stimpson owns a record of 29-8 overall, is ranked No. 7 nationally and won at 165 at the Midwest Super Regional.
The ThunderWolves received votes in the the final Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll after they finished sixth overall at the West Regional, third among the RMAC schools. The Pack posted an 8-9 dual record this season, which included a 3-4 mark in conference play.
