PUEBLO, Colo. (May 6, 2015) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Head Wrestling Coach Dax Charles announced Wednesday five NCAA National Letter of Intent signees to join the ThunderWolves in 2015-16.
All signees are contingent upon admission to CSU-Pueblo and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
All five signees hail from a different state, as the Pack added Kyle Bateman (Sandy, Ore., Sandy HS/Clackamas CC), Shane Coombs (Strasburg, Colo., Strasburg HS), Ty Jackson (Omaha, Neb., Omaha North HS), Jordan Jimenez (Brentwood, Calif., Heritage HS) and Jon Wixom (Maple Mountain, Utah, Maple Mountain HS/Northwest JC).
Charles also announced the addition of three transfers to the Pack next season.
National Letter of Intent Signees:
Kyle Bateman (Sandy, Ore., Sandy HS/Clackamas CC)
The two-time All-American finished third at 165 at the 2015 NJCAA Wrestling Championships for Clackamas, helping the Cougars earn a runner-up finish… Won the NWCA National Dual Meet Championship at 165 in 2015... Also finished third at the 2014 national championships… At Sandy High School in Sandy, Ore., Bateman was a three-time regional champion, two-time Oregon State finalist and a champion his senior year at 170.
Bateman will compete at 165 or 174 at CSU-Pueblo.
Shane Coombs (Strasburg, Colo., Strasburg HS)
Coombs was the runner-up at heavyweight (220) at the 2015 Colorado 3A State Championship after losing the title match by a 3-2 decision… He finished the season with a 45-1 record… Also played guard for the Strasburg football team.
Coombs will wrestle at heavyweight for the Pack.
Ty Jackson (Omaha, Neb., Omaha North HS)
Recorded a 49-3 record as a senior at Omaha North, en route to a Nebraska State Class A Championship at 160… He won the state title by major decision, 15-6… He won the class A title at 149 as a junior and compiled a 39-7 overall record… Started high school career at Bellevue East and as a sophomore in 2013 he finished fifth at the class A state tournament competing at 145… Compiled a 37-12 record.
Jackson will compete at the 149 and 157 weight classes at CSU-Pueblo. Jackson is the former teammate of CSU-Pueblo All-American JaCobi Jones (So., Omaha, Neb.).
Jordan Jimenez (Brentwood, Calif., Heritage HS)
Compiled a record of 38-9 at 145 as a senior at Heritage High School… The two-time Bay Valley Athletic League Champion (2014 and 2015) was a California state qualifier, as he placed second at the North Coast Section last season… Was named 2015 Most Outstanding Senior Wrestler, awarded by the Contra Coasta County Wrestling Officials Association… Finished his junior season with a 35-7 record.
Jimenez will wrestle at 141 for CSU-Pueblo.
Jon Wixom (Maple Mountain, Utah, Maple Mountain HS/Northwest JC)
Wixom wrestled his way to a runner-up finish at the 2014 NJCAA National Championships at 197… He was a national qualifier in 2015 and entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed… Started his collegiate career ranked No. 10 nationally after a successful prep career at Maple Mountain High School where he won the Utah 4A State Championship at 195… He went 64-1 in 2013, which included a UHSAA Super State Championship at 195.
Wixom will wrestle at 197 for the ThunderWolves.

Jacob Mitchell (Portland, Ore./Jefferson HS) came to CSU-Pueblo in the spring from California Baptist University… The heavyweight went 17-1 at Cal-Baptist in 2013-14 with his one loss coming in the NCAA Division II national championship match… Was the 2013 NJCAA Champion at heavyweight at Clackamas CC… Started his career at Northern Michigan University.
AJ Salazar (Leadville, Colo./Dolores Huerta Prep), a transfer from Grand Canyon University… Competed at GCU from 2012-2015 and in 2013-14 he went 30-12 at 133 and won NCWA national and regional titles. At Dolores Huerta Prep, Salazar was a two-time Colorado 3A State Champion.
Tarrence Williams (Portland, Ore./Jefferson HS) is a transfer from Clackamas Community College... Earned All-American status after finishing fifth at 157 at the 2010 NJCAA National Championships… Named Region 18 Outstanding Wresler after winning at 157… Oregon State Champion as a junior and runner-up as a sophomore and senior.
The CSU-Pueblo wrestling team sent three student-athletes to the NCAA Tournament this year and finished tied for 26th, which was tied for third among RMAC teams. The Pack hosted the 2015 NCAA West Super Regional and finished sixth of 14 teams, third out of their RMAC counterparts. The ThunderWolves posted an 8-9 overall record in dual matches, which included a 3-4 conference mark.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
