Current and former wrestlers compete at 2015 Asics Open Wrestling Championships

LAS VEGAS (May 15, 2015) - Current and former Colorado State University-Pueblo student-athletes competed at USA Wrestling's 2015 Asics Open Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, May 7-9.

All-American JaCobi Jones (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) earned a second place finish in the Greco Junior Nationals at 79 KG/174 pounds, as he suffered a fall at 2:39 in the championship to teammate Kyle Bateman (So., Sandy, Ore.).

Both Marcus Finau (Fr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and Jacob Mitchell (Jr., Portland, Ore.) won their first two matches, but finished sixth in the Greco senior division. Finau went 2-2 at 98 KG, while Mitchell went 2-3 at 130 KG.

Former national qualifier Niko Bogojevic (2012-15) wrestled at Greco 130 KG and finished seventh with a 3-1 record.

Kyle Fantin (Fr., Cave Creek, Ariz.) also competed 66 KG/145.5 pounds in the Greco and Freestyle junior division with a 1-4 record.

The U.S. Senior Open offered athletes who compete in Men's Freestyle, Women's Freestyle and Greco-Roman.

The U.S. Open offered 17-20-year-olds a chance to compete in Men's Freestyle and Greco-Roman at the Junior National Championships – UWW Age Group. These young athletes had a chance to qualify for the Final U.S. World Team Trials in the UWW Junior Division.

The CSU-Pueblo wrestling team sent three student-athletes to the NCAA Tournament in 2015 and finished tied for 26th, which was tied for third among Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams. The Pack hosted the 2015 NCAA West Super Regional and finished sixth of 14 teams, third out of their RMAC counterparts. The ThunderWolves posted an 8-9 overall record in dual matches, which included a 3-4 conference mark.

As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
