No. 20 ThunderWolves finish strong at Colorado Mesa Open

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (November 16, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team had a strong showing at the Colorado Mesa Open Saturday highlighted by Tarrence Williams (Sr., Portland, Ore.), as he was undefeated in his bracket to lead the Pack.

Williams went a perfect 4-0 on the day in the 174 pound bracket, including an 18-8 major decision win in the third round.

Glenn Robertson (R-Fr., Auburn, Wash.) placed third at 133 lbs., wrestling 2-1 record overall with an 8-3 decision in the third-place match.

Sophomore JaCobi Jones (Omaha, Neb.) began his campaign finishing in second place in the 157 bracket. He went 3-1 on the day, falling to Colorado Mesa's Jason Buhr 14-9 in the championship match.

Four athletes finished third in their respective brackets.

Tim Urenda (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) ended with a 3-1 record with an 8-3 decision in the third place match.

Kyle Bateman (So., Sandy, Ore.) went 2-1 at 165, which included a 4-3 decision over Tony Silva-Bussey of Colorado Mesa in the third-place match. At 197, Augie DeSantis (R-Jr., Escondido, Calif.) finished 1-2, as the win came from a 6-2 decision over Patrick Cunnion of Western State.

 At heavyweight, Shane Coombs (R-Fr., Strasburg, Colo.) finished his day 3-1, defeating his opponent by a major decision, 9-1, earning third place.

CSU-Pueblo had six other players reach the top five of their brackets.

Nathaniel McKimson (R-Fr., Wasilla, Alaska) at 157 and Taren Welch (Fr., Cunningham, Tenn.) at heavyweight, both finished fourth.

Kyle Fantin (141, R-So., Cave Creek, Ariz.) and Drew Strong (HWT, Fr., Lakewood, Colo.) ended the day with fifth place finishes.

CSU-Pueblo returns to the mat Nov. 21 at Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open in Kearney, Nebraska.
